The Common Trait That Transcends Experience and Skills
What’s the common trait that all ultra-successful retailers and entrepreneurs share? It’s not necessarily experience. It’s not extraordinary skills. It’s not even a forceful drive.
Sure, all these aspects can absolutely assist your business to bloom, but they’re not an essential requirement for triumph. After all, none of us are born with skills or experience, and there are a multitude of successful people who may lack drive.
Finding Your ‘Why’ – The Crucial Element
The crucial element that can really make a difference is your ‘why’.
Why did you decide to embark on a journey as a paintpreneur or furniture flipper? Why do you devote countless hours in front of your computer screen every week? Why are you burning the midnight oil and rising at dawn, just so you can work on developing your business?
The ‘why’ is what ultimately fuels our journey to success. However, the thing to remember is, it’s different for everyone. Your ‘why’ isn’t my ‘why’, and my ‘why’ isn’t their ‘why’. It’s an intensely personal choice that can carry great significance…or not.
Examples of ‘Why’ and Its Power
For instance, a passionate lover of interior design may willingly pour 60 or 70 hours a week into finding and transforming worn-out furniture pieces, driven by the deep satisfaction of seeing the transformation. Their big ‘why’ is the pleasure derived from breathing new life into old objects.
A parent might want to avoid the heartache of leaving their child at a daycare just so they can barely cover the bills. Their ‘why’ might be a yearning to spend as much time as they can with their children, while still earning a living.
Defining Your ‘Why’ and Making It Work for You
So, what’s your big ‘why’? It could be the freedom to explore your creative impulses, the joy of seeing a customer’s face light up when they see your work, the flexibility to take care of your family, or even to generate enough profit to support a cause close to your heart.
Whatever it is, your ‘why’ is the propelling force behind every action you take. When you’re contemplating whether or not to take on a new project, ask yourself if it aligns with your ‘why’. When you’re setting your yearly goals, consider whether those aims are drawing you nearer to or further from your ‘why’. Considering diversifying into a new style or technique? Ensure it lines up with your big ‘why’, and suddenly, success seems much more achievable.
